Flee the All-Encompassing Darkness
Public Announcement Challenge
I hover high above the poppies
Shuddering in vengeful wrath
Arsenic tears openly wept from
Sleepless eyes, heavenward cast
No delicate shining drops are shed
I blow a brittle burning Tempest blast
Heed my notice carefully
Lest you be drawn down the same stygian shaft
☁︎☀☁︎🌑☁︎
From the depths of the infinite secrets of the heart
Ear-splitting harmonies clash and swell
Trembling lamentations violently erupt
A captivating dirge played on a sunken copper bell
Bygone days stir from their grave-bound slumber
To escape their hard-packed earthen cell
Darkness peers into every soul, calculating
Shadows drag open hearts into the abyssal, fear-filled well
☁︎☀☁︎🌑☁︎
I remain indwelling where the land t'was rent in two
A gash infinitely long and unfathomably deep
Silence overwhelms, shattering boulders
Darkness, swallows trickling creeks
Flee from the ground-shaking quake of
Memory’s clambering retreat
Shield your senses, grief paints eyes and eardrums
With a slickening ichor seep
Slowly out of orifices does it viscously drip
Every cross-contaminating reeking streak
Skims cold paper skin
It paints puffy splotched cheeks
Straddling the picket fence
Of fever dream and surreal reverie
☁︎☀☁︎🌑☁︎
Never capitulate to the pallid visual sensation or
Despairing waves of psychic screaming
Don’t get lost in the shattered mirror
Coated in residual flecks of grey memory
Pain and past crusted in the cracks and seams
Avert your gaze as white fabric ghosts
Pulse and squirm to the rock leaping beat
Avoid choking under the menacing glow
Emanating from terror’s deceit
Cut and run from every doubt and fear
I, too, take solace in simple defeat
☁︎☀☁︎🌑☁︎
Heed my warning, fear my doom
As I burn in wretched torment
Hell comes not after life or sin
It’s living trapped in a ball, viewed as a portent
A pedestal of praise below
Noose of truth above, though justice lay long dormant
Without an audience, will any pleading wails echo?
Or will each victim finally be rendered empty, silent
☁︎☀☁︎🌑☁︎
Instead, turn your face to the filtered light
Run with speed and surety
The past might mindlessly pursue
But must eventually fall into obscurity
Let no obstacle impede
No doubts slow your celerity
Once the past has lost your scent
Bask in the future's serenity
