The Coldness of this City

The branches cold and bare

By Robin EdwardsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

The Coldness Of This City

All the leaves have fallen

the branches cold and bare

the sky has lost its warmth

coldness fills the air

The sidewalk greets my feet

with uncaring flair

I pull my headscarf tighter

as the wind whips through my hair

The buildings stare back at me

in angry cold despair

watching me as I pass

walking silently nowhere

I remember a summer’s promise

holding your hand tight in mine

our season now behind us

lost in another time

Lost in the coldness of this city

lost in the moaning of the wind

lost in the bitterness of winter

waiting for summer once again

Only I won’t be walking with you

holding your hand tight in mine

I lost you to another’s summer

leaving me behind

So now I walk alone

my face against the wind

walking silently nowhere

and missing you again
