The Agreement In Which She Bled
Written between her and her demons
She would always disappear, just vanish
The world was too loud, out of control,
You could wander the halls of her mind
But she’d hidden in the forest of her soul.
***
You could ask, but she’d never say aloud
Where she could be found, where she’d hide,
For that’s the agreement in which she bled
Sacred to her demons, in which she’d confide.
***
You’ll find that there is very little difference
Between her taste in music and her soul,
Too wild, too deep and too much for most
Who think they can handle her with control.
***
Instead she prefers to rendezvous at night
With the moon, their secrets whispered,
The stars guard this friendship in starlight
Protecting the knowledge they’re half sisters.
***
You’ll think you’re hearing things, going mad
When you hear their loud breathless laughter,
Convinced it’s the roaring of her winter storm
Spun to decorate her halo and devil’s horn after.
***
She will then suddenly go quiet, an eerily silence
Ominous, terrifying in its heavenly starkness,
When in reality she’s still with the moon, quietly
As they pick the stardust out of their darkness.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Another captivating poem, Colleen. Your imagery is so vivid I feel like I can see her hiding in the dark night looking up at the twinkling stars. I love it!
