The fear of the sea

I'm scared—even—of shallow water,

How your foot parts the water

And then all too quickly swallows it whole

And you can't see your foot anymore,

Like it was never there,

I'm scared of Thalassa, she is water,

The water is what I am addicted to

But when she nestles me

In her drowning hands,

There are blotches and dark spots, the sun Can't make light of, its dark and unknown

And the creatures in the shallow—sometimes

Harmless little goldfish, but

The deeper one goes down, it becomes

Ink black, the creatures are ungodly

Eyeless monsters, aliens of the seas;

I'm scared of Thalassa, because

She almost let me die in the sea,

I'm scared of Thalassa because

She has a hold of me,

I'm scared of Thalassa every time—

I drink or hold myself under water, because

Thalassa won't let me breathe
