Teaching Gardening to Kids

It's more valuable than inheritance

Parenting is challenging,

it must be done right,

or it's lifelong suffering.

So, I have many philosophies,

among them, there is gardening,

for it's a symbol of sustainability,

a must-have skill to have,

to ensure survival, and security.

So, I include my kids in chores:

sowing, transplanting, staking,

watering, composting to picking.

I teach them name, traits,

family, vitamins, pests,

of all vegetables we harvest.

They must know,

bolting, deadheading, pollination,

pruning, food chain, fasciation,

common terminologies,

in gardeners' vocabulary.

This is an inheritance,

I am proud to leave,

for the little cherubs,

it's about self-sustenance.

Totally agree with you. When I worked in day care we planted seeds even though I worked with older toddlers at the time. It was great fun.

I agree gardening is so important for children to learn and it gets them out of the house!
