Tan is NOT Neutral

The Colors of My World

Tan is NOT Neutral

As a child I was taught the colors of the rainbow are bright

As an adult these colors have become a future fright.

As I grow and study, I realize these colors are fake.

When we see the color blue takes a black life at stake

Red can no longer paint a beautiful rose

When it symbolizes the blood shed of people in droves

I was taught red, blue, and yellow were the primary hues

Yet in the world I live, black succumbs as the white rules.

I’d like to see if the grass really is greener on the other side

But we have too many people that rely on their pride

My tan children live in fear daily, hoping and praying not to get

Purple, green and orange bruises in the back of their head and neck

Our ancestors rallied to gain equality, education and rights

Yet it’s 2021, and we still can’t enjoy going out alone at night

Red white and blue, colors of the symbol we fight to defend

However we end up covered in red more than we intend

fact or fiction
