social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
I am an orange
I am an orange, you know. I used to be somewhat of a grapefruit until I realized I was liked by more people than previously thought. Do not slice me into perfect quarters. Please proceed to peel me, recklessly. Use your teeth to start if you have to. Section me off and savor me. A dribble down the chin never hurt anyone. I am not a lemon nor a lime because I am more than a garnish, more than a kick in the teeth, more than a slice in a glass. I am the snack. Full stop. I am not mandarin, too tiny. I am not blood, too boujie. I am sumo. Absolutely irresistibly delicious, if only you can find me.
