I am a Black man.
Confident.
Strong.
Proud. I am Black, do you see me now?
Am I not kind and gentle enough to exist in your world? But what about when I gently stroke my dog’s back?
I went to school, almost got my PhD - but you just won’t let me be.
Sneaking roun’ making laws against me - what the hell that be?
My G-d didn’t create me to serve you. My G-d didn’t create me to even like you.
But I do.
You’ve told so many lies but the screams and scars don’t matter - you got the affluenza and the privilege at your advantage.
I’ve grown numb to your constant misbehavior.
Your lack of color, your indignation.
How dare you be so blind when other humans cry.
You stand in constant judgment then gawk when the martyr comes for you.
Then you say you stand for the red, white, and blue.
My grandfather went to war under a flag to his demise.
He came home from Korea, a nigger with the ones he just confided.
You see this colorful bliss we call life is a mystery,
We can never capture peace if we keep defining each other by colors.
My color will never be good enough….for you,
and yours was never enough.
