An ode to Mother Nature; poems that take their inspiration from the great outdoors.
Pocket of Gold
The following is a series of short poems I wrote attempting to demonstrate imagism. According to Poetry 101, the characteristics of imagism are directness, economy of language, avoidance of generalities, and a hierarchy of precise phrasing over adherence to poetic meter. I would love any feedback as to how successful I have been. Thanks for reading!

The Scent of Strawberries
(Some say the name “strawberry” comes from the practice of covering the plants with straw to deter pests and retain moisture. However it seems the name strawberry far predates this procedure. Others suggest the name comes from the straw-like appearance of the seeds. My favorite explanation is that it comes from the Old English word for “strew,” because of the way the berries grow: strewn along the ground.)

FOUR LITTLE DUCKS
This little duck let me get close. Close enough to take the photo. I literally had to chase him around for a couple of minutes before he let me get the back of him. Maybe I should have brought him something to eat. They are grateful average sized creatures; and friendly too. I had to get a picture of him/her. He/she was the only one out there with color. As you can see, his/her neck is a pretty green. It doesn’t really go with the rest of the colors on his/her body, but it’s there and he/she stands out from the rest. Anyway, I chose to leave him/her alone and entertain a new friend.
