The following is a series of short poems I wrote attempting to demonstrate imagism. According to Poetry 101, the characteristics of imagism are directness, economy of language, avoidance of generalities, and a hierarchy of precise phrasing over adherence to poetic meter. I would love any feedback as to how successful I have been. Thanks for reading!

I found a pocket of gold

Among the green

A small golden pool

Cupped in the conifers

Yellow Aspens

Blazing in the Fir.

~

A shadow flower

bloomed on the wall of the overpass

thrown from the stop sign

against the red brick

~

The clouds lay like a blanket today

Warming the knees of the mountains

It was no comforter

No great duvet

It was a throw blanket of white plush

Over half the bed of sky

~

An approaching figure

Outspread wings

A flash of black feet

And the duck lands

On the water in a

Quiet rush of ripples.
