Stillen Gedenken

Grieving the Living

By Cindy CalderPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read
In Stillen Gedenken (Silent Remembrance)

Silence, a reckoning you brought and demanded, detonated,

Imploding to deny a bond so wondrously created at your birth. I’ll

Lament your absence from my life, miss your face and laughter for all

Existence while

Navigating through days of longing for you amid depths of emptiness,

Crying nights and grieving the absence of you, my dearest child, for

Evermore, until I breathe no more....and then from my grave.

heartbreak

Just echoing the words of previous comments, but this is full of heartbreak and grief Cindy. Losing the ones we love is something that always stays with us i think 🙏🏽

This is beautiful and heartbreaking. Initially I was reading it as being about a parent, but when you reveal it’s about a child, 🥺 oh my heart 💔

  • That's beautiful. I'm happy to subscribe to your work.

This is so beautifully written, a heartbreaking, emotional piece. And that last line, wow.

I quickly browsed the comments below mine to make sure I wasn't just borrowing or stealing from others, but they've said it all. this is so heartbreaking and really sums up what grief and loss can do and its impact. The title made me Google, though I was sure I had an idea what it was translated as and every single line was spectacular...sad, but beautiful. Well done, Cindy!

I adore the title, and then I think the first line is really strong, and the second is my favourite, no the third... and on and on it goes, layering excellence on excellence until you slay me with that last line. K.O.! 👏 👏 👏 👏

This was, as Dharrsheena says, hard-hitting. A real lament for something lost and the damage that the separation created. I feel like this if from experience due to the presence in its tone and emotion. If it is, I'm sorry.

  • Gosh this was so hard hitting, emotional and poignant! So beautifully written and I loved it!

A poignant poem that captures a parent's grief and loneliness. What a child fails to realise, Cindy. Well done.

With heaviness and a searing sense of sadness, this poem lifts off the page. It shows a depth of emotion and allows the mind to contemplate its brilliance.
