Waiting on the Other Side

Faith is Needed

His thinking is deep...too deep for his own good.

I think sometimes he won't be able to escape from his mind.

He believes in his thoughts and is so passionate about them.

And he is so passionate about sharing them with me, too.

They quickly become too much for me and he feels so shunned.

I hate myself for not being able to take them for very long.

He says that I fear the truth of his thoughts and I do. I fear for him, not for me.

The fact of the matter is that I will never believe the "truths" that he thinks are real.

But he is convinced and becomes angry when I cannot agree.

His reality doesn't coincide with my faith.

I hate being separated from his heart and soul and mind.

I reject his thoughts but NOT him. He doesn't believe that, though.

We suffer a terrible chasm that divides us.

He doesn't know how proud I am of his searching.

Search more, my dear son.

Faith is not complicated.

Surrender and trust.

We need a Bridge...

Beautiful expression, Shirley! Differing beliefs can definitely feel like a chasm. Hopeful for peace and a middle ground!

  • "I reject his thoughts but NOT him." Sometimes, it's very difficult for people to understand that because they feel that their thoughts and opinions are a huge part of who they are. Sometimes, they just need time. Or perhaps, like you said, a bridge. Loved your poem!

Ahh, beliefs are so tricky. So tangled up with our sense of identity. Rejection of belief does feel like rejection of the person holding that belief. Very tricky.

This is a lovely reflection on how our realities truly differ, and how that can be hard to bridge but how essentially, it doesn't stand in the way of genuine love, even if that's not enough to build the bridge on it's own.

Excellent, Shirley. I hope that bridge gets built soon.
