Spring Planting

Haiku

If I plant a seed

I am guaranteed nothing

but a chance to dream

*

Should my seed take root

there’s no promise of fruit, but

hope in the blossom

*

I’ll feed my neighbour

with bountiful harvest and

spring blessings of rain

*

Should my crop be spoiled

it will still feed the squirrels

its purpose fulfilled

*

In unknown autumn

my only regret would be

not planting the seed

I was going to say that the first haiku was enough on its own, but then the last haiku was ALSO enough on its own, and the whole was bigger still.

Very fitting form choice! Love the hopefulness and purposeful waiting communicated with the planting of a seed! Not a fan of squirrels but clever line all the same!

  • Love the part of the spoiled crop feeding squirrels great haiku set
