Sparrow

I let the bird disturb my seedling container

By Seema PatelPublished 6 months ago 1 min read
Sparrow in the garden @Seema

I saw a sparrow today

in the backyard garden,

perched on a container

in which I sow seeds,

of tomato, cantaloupe,

marigold, coreopsis,

and many more,

so I can take the seedlings

to transplant elsewhere.

The bird was scratching,

soil displaced,

seeds disturbed,

maybe getting decimated.

As I ate my meal,

seated on the patio furniture,

the sparrow seemed a pest.

I felt like, shooing it away.

But then, a change of mind.

I was eating my lunch,

of mutton-rice,

that poor bird

eating it's meal too.

My food is barbarian,

humans are more detrimental,

to this earth.

I am the one,

who’s damaging more,

not the sparrow.

I let it eat

to its heart’s content,

seed sowing,

I can always restart.

I believe the sparrow was joining you in your meal. Birdies make great meal companions. Good job.
