Soon To Be Free
Leaving the torment behind

The highways are calling,
The blacktop whispering his name,
The wind singing his favourite tune,
These are the answers to his pain.
******
He slings his legs across the saddle,
Turns the throttle and lets her roar,
Enjoying the rumble, music to his ears,
Before he rolls out onto that highway and lets her soar.
******
Cobwebs are swept from his mind as the speed thrills,
That centre white line becoming a blur,
A smile of exhilaration adorns his handsome face,
Boiling his blood and making his life stir.
******
Freedom,
Out there on the open road,
Freedom,
To stop the mind chatter and just let go.
******
The sun sets mirages off in the distance,
An eagle soars above his head,
The wind croons his name in a loving whisper,
Living his best life; remembering he’s not dead.
******
During his time out on the open road,
He rifles through the most precious of his memories,
Pictures the scenes that were his greatest joy,
Those few that’ll cushion him through the centuries.
******
He opens the throttle wide,
Soars with that eagle above,
Dreams of a different tomorrow,
One in which he is finally reunited in love.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Excellent sensory words! I could easily imagine. I might have to get me a bike now to stop my constant mind chatter! 😄
