Society's Puppet

I dance to society's tune, a puppet on display,

Yearning for acceptance in their judgmental array.

I mold myself to fit the molds, conformity I seek,

Yet still, a lingering ache, a sense of being weak.

I adorn the masks they wear, a chameleon in disguise,

Hoping to appease their expectations, to gain their fleeting prize.

But no matter how I bend, how I contort and strive,

Their elusive validation, forever out of my drive.

I chase their ever-shifting standards, a futile game to win,

But their measuring stick remains elusive, leaving me within.

In the mirror's cruel reflection, I question my worth,

As society's expectations weigh heavy upon the earth.

I'm trapped in their web, a maze of suffocating norm,

Yearning to break free, to embrace my own form.

But doubts seep through my veins, an internal battle fought,

For I've forgotten who I am, the essence I've begot.
