Shift Work

Another Day

Ding! Another day.

Instant coffee into a cheap cup.

Stir in some Splenda. Fill it up.

Terri is particular. Same way, every day.

Rent due.

AC broke too.

Coffee up! They filter in all day.

Time entered. Sun’s going down.

Injured foot hurts like a fresh crown.

Ohh sleep! you sweet release from sorrow.

No time for her novel. “There’ll always be time tomorrow.”

Author's Note: Inspired by the hard workers of Kribi Coffee - Chicago, whose coffee is decidedly not instant, but fantastic, and served as my office for the day. #supportlocalbuisness

Enjoyed this -A great microcosmic snapshot. The snippets of conversation made it really immersive, 🤍 Though I can't write any where other than in silence, sadly 🤍

Fabulous job within the constraints that an acrostic presents! You captured the drudgery, the easy distraction, the physical and mental tiredness at the end of a hard day.

I like!!! So true how distractions keep you from doing that which you dream of......

Oh this was really well done! I love how your brought across the everyday drudgery of shift work but still made it seem as though the POV has a sunny outlook!
