Shadow-cation: A Mindspace Manual for Dematerializing

Poem for the Instructions for Disappearing challenge

Would you like to vanish with the no-named fellow

Who keeps following you around without permission

Do you wish to recede in low-lit spaces

Where none's the wiser of your clumsy companion

A trip for two, just you and your shadow

Long overdue speaks to their uncalled-for admission

Further mention: "departure minus traces-

Not much to ask, all in all, you abandon"

***

Pesky shadow's infatuation

Your clear conviction, causing friction

Tug of war, push and pull

Remedy: not nix and null

Vacate shadow; not quite ever

Escape in unison- now that's quite clever

Shadow- you- coming together

Sayonara, all hail salvation

Welcome to your shadow-cation!

***

A dimly lit room is your boarding pass

Drawn blinds, quiet, a comfy temp

Self-chosen seat, some frankincense

No seat belts needed; your flight is internal

Sit back, sink, count backward, ten to one

Ten to one, you'll fall asleep

And sleep is where your shadow keeps-

All the knowledge you'd rather delete

BUT NOT TODAY

***

Hey, hey, hey, but this is not Fat Albert

I am your Mindspace Manual for Dematerializing

I am your compassionate subconscious

Telling you to revert your seat to the inclined position

And tell your mate, your shadow, to pass the peanuts

This might be a bumpy ride

But the two of you have got to get on better

Side by side, it's time for takeoff!

***

Think: magick, like Harry Potter

Push your baggage through Diagon Alley

Find the wand, waving in projections

Projections: the qualities you despise in others

Which actually are your spells kept in dusty binds

Silent chants, ranting or raving-

Whichever the case may be

About neglected parts of yourself

Things you deny

Trauma, you keep bottled up

Talents waiting for your attention

Transferred sentiments to others

Others: fathers, sisters, mothers, brothers

Mayhap even strangers

Ooooh, stranger danger

Now, rearrange, shift, shuffle

Remix the narrative; you've tricked yourself-

Silly wabbit, but it's okay

Your shadow is not your enemy

***

Shadow is your best gal pal or fly guy

Can I get some fries with that shake

Yes, your shadow is here to shake things up a bit

Challenge your status quo, expand your vision

Question everything you thought you knew about yourself

And when you can calmly fly as a passenger

Seated with your uninvited companion-

Something amazing happens

You realize absence alludes to authority

Lightening moment; you are priority

Guidance from an alter explain- not insane

Embeds in the human brain

A vacation vaccine, shadow-cation

Minus the buzz of inebriation

Applause applause, standing ovation

Higher, higher on the path of individuation

Conscious, unconscious, partner, mind; retrain

Disappear to discover

Rediscover, uncover, recover

The true self from another plane

***

Author's note- my stream of consciousness, humor, Jungian theory, off the top of my head, kooky manual poem about disappearing.

Understanding one's shadow is vital in the journey of Individuation.

This is a joy to read. A smile broke across my faced with every comparison of another tale, Fat Albert, Harry Potter, silly wabbit. A reminder of what we enjoy. And it all started with this line: 'A dimly lit room is your boarding pass'

What a ride! I agree with Euan, a very surreal stream of consciousness approach! Great work, Marilyn!

  • Oooo, vacation vaccine, that was brilliant. I especially loved the mention of fries and the Harry Potter references hehehehe!

This felt like a surreal journey! Haha, I loved every bit of it, Marilyn. Funny but serious, kooky but grounded in its own way. We can never escape our shadow... so we may as well take it with us! (also, love that title!)
