Only believing when seeing is a trap. Reflection, electing the truth; proof found in memories, a time lapse, is fondness found. I grasp it. Pieces of the promise, yesterday's smiles. Yesterday's wishes granted. The delight in the daylight, light-hearted moments: Love, Laughter, Heart's Embrace. Sending it on...

Even though it changed, all of it, all turned on its face. The you I once knew, or so I thought. The you I loved, the one I sought. Cheerleader, Supporter, Lover, my greatest friend. Unlike any other- But let's not pretend. Deeper truths disclosed the hidden. Departure, yes, myself and the children. But I extract it all, the fancy from the forbidden. Carry it forward- for THEM. Ought not the ridden, yet, the love, I do. Sending it on...

I harvest not the HATE, the BERATING, the HURT. I farm not the fight, but give soil its freedom, planting only fruitful seeds for my kin. Sins of the father need not burden my blood. I collect only nutrients, transferring Hope, Kindness, Compassion- forward thinking, cultivating future generations. Addiction, Abuse, Infidelity, while never underrated, will not take memory's first prized pickings. Fruit, never fallen; grounded by a mother's love. Sending it on...

Memories are the apples I choose, some bruised, some brighter, some not readily eaten, but the gathering, the bushel sorting, the digging, separating the rotten from the ripe, yields a chip-basket. Chip off my shoulders; isolating good from bad feeds the children. Full tummies, healthy souls, tomorrow's horticulture. Sending it on...

Believing equals seeing. I encourage them. I pass on perseverance, not planted with false memories or plot schemes, but with the poetry of fond recollections amid uncertain times. Famine is not familiarity. Faith and heart are harvest's foreword. Foretell the seasons, I cannot, but I can send love forward to children and grandchildren, so I do. Sending it on...

Author's Note: My entry is inspired in part by the late D'Angelo's song Send It On and is dedicated to my children, Brittany, Crimson, Blessed, and Elijah, and my two beautiful grandsons, Lennox and Oscar.

Despite all the bad things in life, it's always important to harvest the good memories- for ourselves, our children, and the future!

This is a truly moving and hopeful piece. You've taken some really tough experiences and found a beautiful way to focus on the good memories and love to carry forward.

  • You pass on the real and the memorable here, Marilyn. And that's what children need. Real and beautiful.

Oooh! This is the type of read that requires time to simmer. Concentrations high... Glad there's a D'Angelo video at the end to allow rereading and that much needed time. You have something beautiful here, but not for the rushed. Thank you for writing and sharing!

What a heartfelt reminder that we can’t always rewrite the past, but we can choose what grows from it. πŸ’›
