Secrets In The Shallows

*

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

out on the edge of the pier, she stood

searching the surface for bubbles

for any sign of the water to move

ripples, warning onlookers of trouble

she did all she could to cover her tracks

made a list so she wouldn’t get caught

spackled the walls, to cover the cracks

leaving nothing but a second thought

if given the chance, would she do it again

is the cost worth the price that she'll pay

she did it regardless what other might say

she had only her heart to obey

so, out on the edge of the pier she stood

searching the surface for bubbles

for any sign of the water to move

ripples, warning onlookers of trouble

This one has such a mysterious, haunting feel to it! I love how it explores the inner conflict and the consequences of her choices—very thought-provoking!

Ooh this is fascinating. Who'd she kill? Such a mystery. Well done.

This is one mystery poem that you could turn into a mystery thriller. Good job.

I think this one is going to stick with me for a while, Kelli. The imagery and symbolism suggest a dark secret but the consequent metaphor could have other meanings as well. Really striking and thought provoking!

Yes, she'd do it again, and gladly.
