scratches in my mind - Inertia creeps, agency sleeps

last in "scratches in my mind" Senryū series - self-reflective, introspective poem.

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Inertia it creeps

over our living corpses

agency it sleeps

-

bang the gong, bang bang

(whispered gasps, cries, but unheard)

bang the gong, bang bang

-

Inertia it seeps

into our very being

agency it sleeps

-

bang the gong, bang, gaps

(unuttered nothing said, done)

boom rat-a-tat-tat

-

Inertia it reaps

all that we are, we could be

agency it sleeps

-

bang the gong, gasp-bang

(-------)

metronomic-tick

-

Inertia it keeps

a vice-like hold on us

agency it weeps

bang the gong

gong

gong

gone

Crash, flop, drop! Well this one didn’t pick me up at all. Thanks for that. Haha. I particularly love the inertia-agency one individually, but the onomatopoeia throughout is intriguing too Paul!

This read was quite a rhythmic experience! Very through provoking scratch, Paul! the inertia vs. agency juxtaposition is a brilliant one!

A deep, intense vibe with a lot of weight in those beats. Love how the gong hits echo that feeling of stuckness. Strong imagery! You’ve really captured a lot of emotion with minimal words—nice work!

  • Oh no, it's so sad that this is the last one! This did seem lyrical to me and I sang it to my own tune heheheh

Ohhh this was phenomenal! Such an articular piece, Paul! I got chills reading this!

Wow, Sir, this hits deep—so rhythmic and haunting, like a drumbeat of despair and awakening. The way you wove inertia and agency together? Chillingly brilliant. Loved it!

Metronomic tick - ooh, I love that. This was so good. Think inertia is a bit like indifference... when you stop feeling/ doing anything, that's the worst. I'd rather get angry than feel nothing at all. Great stuff Paul.

When you hear the gong time to move, or you will be gone. A poem once again to make one think.

Powerful piece of poetry on death and thereafter, Paul. It reminds me very much of a poem written in age old esteem from writers of old.

Really deep poetic weaving going on here, Paul. You truly are the master

Ooo this reminds me of one of my favourite massive attack songs "inertia creeps". Is that an ekphrastic element? Also... yes...It really does. Time ticks to quick!

This is truly some of your best work. The metronome pause is a fantastic touch
