Edward Hopper, "Excursion into Philosophy," 1959
This was probably a foolish mistake
There are books to read and papers to grade
Real pleasure comes to those who give, not take
My motion of late has been retrograde

Temptation was difficult to resist
Because I am a body with a mind
The flesh can be quiet, but does insist
Upon attention of a sweaty kind

Now and again, being solitary
Is more than a dying body can bear
Experience can make one quite wary
But bright and laughing beauty is quite rare

Pay attention when you receive that look
Once he is gone, I’ll return to my book
About the Creator
D. J. Reddall
I write because my time is limited and my imagination is not.

The opening lines, wow!! Your poems never fail! 💘🌟
The relaxed almost lazy air about this piece really sold it. There's something special about this one. Well done!
Wonderful piece. I particularly like the line about real pleasure. Well done.
"Real pleasure comes to those who give, not take" no truer words...I enjoyed this- thanks for sharing.
You are a master of polysemy ( which I had meant, I had to look up, but you’re a master of education as well)
"The flesh can be quiet, but does insist/Upon attention of a sweaty kind" - such a great line! And that painting? Where do you find these? Great sonnet, D.J.!
Real pleasure comes to those who give…..well, ok This line alone speaks in multiple definitions
I will definitely pay attention when I get that look! Great work! Fantastic!
"Now and again, being solitary Is more than a dying body can bear" I especially loved those lines!
Temptation is a double-edged sword...and such a integral facet of our human nature. Great poem.
Love the flow of your words. Nice writing.
