S, C, & P: An Ode to Elves on the Shelves

Listen!

By Gerard DiLeoPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

Even though they're mostly nothing

They each have a story to tell

But the mostly air is mostly bluffing

When air escapes their grainy shell

.

Adding milk will light their fuses

And open their performance on tap

They're unapologetic without excuses

When a third of them begin to snap

.

Their sweetness is really up to you

Spooned sugar megalomaniacal

The next sounds, ready, in the queue

When the second third start to crackle

.

This Kellog's breakfast has few ingredients

In a race to break fast before their chatter stops

Sogginess silences the husks' sonorous deviance

When a third of them pop their very last pops

.

The snaps in the bowl will soon fade out

Then the diner will be surprised to witness

How crackles and pops will no doubt

Have the last word via borborygmus

    borborygmus - what a splendiferous word 😁

  • Whoaaaa, I never knew all those weird sounds that the stomach makes had a word for it! Thank you so much for educating me! I like my cereal to remain crunchy but somehow I like the rice krispies soggy hahahaha. Loved your poem!

Not one of my faves as a kid. If that's wat we had, I made sure there was a good sugar rush coming. I was more of a Cocoa Puffs fan.

had to look up borborygmus - what a word. I like them soggy. The snap, crackle and pop were lost on me. Just the chorus before the interlude.
