Rock and Roll Heart
Inspired by “I've Got a Rock and Roll Heart” Eric Clapton

Anytime I hear those drums roll
and the guitars start to strum,
you’ve got my attention
and I’m longing to dance,
I’m outta my chair and away we go -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Love that good ole rock and roll,
anytime and anywhere.
Don’t you dare turn it down low,
makes me feel alright,
gotta have that beat,
it’s really neat -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Learned to dance to the Beatles
and to really move along with Elvis.
On the dance floor with dad at two doing the twist
and I’ve always felt like a rock and roll queen -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Now I’m into other music too,
but it just doesn’t fill my soul,
like when the Rolling Stones,
begin to have their 19th nervous breakdown
and the Beatles twist and shout,
you can’t keep me away -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Have a lot of favorites,
from the oldies to the 1990s.
They lost me somewhere,
along the way when more modern,
rock began to play.
I need the old-time rhythms
and that makes me feel so grand -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Give me a Buddy Holly tune,
let me see the Big Bopper,
rock and jive.
Nothing like it anywhere,
rock just simply shines
and it makes me feel so fine -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Along came Billy and Bruce and Bob,
fell in love with them all three,
their music always makes me glad -
‘Cause I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Don’t think the old masters,
would disapprove of rock,
Haydn would make a rock opera
and Strauss would have us dancing,
to a rock and roll waltz.
Beethoven would roll over some more
and we’d all have a grand time -
I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Give me good ole rock and roll,
anytime any day and you can steal my heart away.
Got the beat and the rhythm in my soul -
heck, I’ve got a rock and roll heart.
*
Shall we dance?
