Refuge
Is the theme for National Poetry Day in the USA
Today is National Poetry Day
on this, the first Thursday
in October every year.
The theme is about fear
taking refuge here
in the good old USA.
I was asked if I would tell a
story I once heard about
two women from Canada
that I have been known to tout.
About how they came to say
it is essential that all of us, every daughter
of all women care for the water.
As the water is in trouble and today
it has to start. Today people won’t say
what we are saying in 1978
so, you will not get the support out of the gate.
This is for our families and communities
and the importance of our world, rural and cities.
Water is life
there will be much strife
without water and the fear is real
we need to be the refuge for this deal.
We will pray at a water ceremony
at every walk we make we pray to only
get the word out that water is in trouble and it is a race
against time to shelter water in this time and space.
