The road trip of recovery

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Recovery is like a road trip

With ups and downs

And the occasional stop

Sometimes even you have to restart

Because you forgot something

Something back at the start

Recovery may be hard

But it's worth it

Just like every good road trip

Recovery

 – – – – –

Recovery is hard

Self harm is hard

Choosing to get better is tough

Letting the dark win is tough

Accepting you don't have to be sad is difficult

Always being sad is difficult

Choose your battle

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The choice

 – – – – –

Recovery is a choice

A hard one at that

It took me years

So many years

To decide that I needed to recover

Because that sadness

That emptiness

Was starting to feel like home

But I knew it wasn't good

I knew I should stop

And one day I did

One day I decided recovery was the right choice

So that's what I did

I recovered.

Poems

 – – – –

Poems made me love life again

The simple joy of writing

Of putting my words

My thoughts

Onto a page

In any format I wanted

In any way I desired

It was so freeing

So joyous

And it made me feel alive again

And it made me feel in control again
