A frosted verse

By Hannah MoorePublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

You touched my cheek, and I remembered you,

And though I was glad to have forgotten,

You brought with you photographs, and recipes we used to make,

And I felt again, just beneath my epidermis

Both the warmth of knowing you could not get to me,

And the thrill of laying in your arms.

I remembered that beauty can be sharp,

And how you glazed rot with diamonds.

I had forgotten how fragile you were, how easily crushed,

And how I tiptoed, delighting to see you shine.

You snipped the last golds of summer with silver filigree blades.

I turned up my collar, and sought you all the same.

Wow. Powerful. It reminds me of how our bodies remember things before our minds do.

  • Excellent slant on Frost! I especially liked: "I had forgotten how fragile you were, how easily crushed, And how I tiptoed, delighting to see you shine."

Gorgeous piece. Warm and delicate, cold and sharp at the same time. Well done.

This is absolutely amazing verse! You evoked frost and the experience of it without even a whisper of its name or the frozen conditions that herald its arrival. I hope the Vocal judges are paying attention, Hannah. This poem is a reminder of how powerful the poetic form can be in the right hands!

Beautifully double edged in its blade-like frosted words. Metaphorically divine.

‘Blades’ and ‘same’ the last two ending words, brought me sensations through my body. But if I go back up, I can feel my cheeks and the way you cleverly weave a love story within the life of a leaf. Just absolutely outstanding. Especially when you mentioned that beauty can be sharp, and how it glazed rot with diamonds. I just can’t get over these two lines. 👌🏽👏🏽

This was just sublime. Just "check" that first line again as I think there is a typo. Nice to have you back. Hope all is good.
