Take a rabbit's paw for luck

And wear it round your wrist

Or slip it in your pocket

Like a small golden watch.

It's a talisman that's soft to touch-

Reassuring to behold?

But either way, that little foot

Is the product of a death.

Death does not bring luck,

Does it?

But it does bring rabbits' paws.

Can a severed limb be fortunate?

Can amputation hold good will?

It seems unlikely, don't you think?

Especially for luckless bunnies.

Best leave your luck to judgement, I think

And leave the rabbits to their paws.

Poor cute rabbits definitely deserve to keep their paws… bizarre superstition, as they typically are.🥺

Agreed! Makes me wonder about the origin for such a superstition!

    Nicely done, Rachel.

  • I couldn't agree more. Even when a death might seem to solve a problem or two, it seems to create a dozen more.

Yeah I often wondered how a severed rabbit’s paw could be considered lucky?! Great poem Rachel.

It is a bit of a weird superstition isn't it

I always wondered about that talisman for luck….didn’t make sense as a child and sure as hell doesn’t as an adult. Yet they were out there.

Everybody I know had one, on a keychain, when we were teenagers. I now look back and think, damn I hope it was fake. Funny how perspectives change as we age. It's a ridiculous superstition.

Love it! I've just realized that there are two animal paws that are associated with good/bad luck, rabbits and monkeys. I wonder why that is? Might end up going down an internet rabbit hole on that one lol

Ha, definitely, Dhar vibes. No little wabbit paws in my pocket. I think it's a bit wacky. I say leave the bunnies to their business. Nice job, Rachel!

That does not bring luck, unless your spouse paid up on your life insurance. Great job!

Do you and Dharrsheena know each other? As for your writing, this was a clever exploration of superstitions. you really made me think :)

Well-wrought! I thought to remark that the rabbit must not have been so lucky if we have its paw, but then I could imagine circumstances where it might have lived to fight another day, one paw less, and realized luck is a matter of perspective. Nevertheless, I agree with the sentiment here, and evoke the Holy Hand Grenade on this ridiculous superstition!

  • Thank youuuuu for that warning 🥹❤️ As always, to ensure this registers as a read, I've scrolled down slowly
