Psalms Are Not Alms

not by a longshot

Psalms Are Not Alms

Every day’s a new day

Pollyanna types are known to say

Platitudes rub me the wrong way.

One helping hand changes more than

One hundred palms flattened to pray.

So, save your performative prayers and thoughts

The language of self-proclaimed pious lots.

banal bromides are all you’ve got;

But Psalms are not alms, not by a long shot.

So, save your sugar pill sedative

for the damned and the plaintive.

My pain demands a palliative

More anodyne than any opioid can give.
