"YOU Gave"

A Prodigal Son

By Chris ZPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read
"...when my old life ran aground."

You Gave

Shepherds guarding sheep from wolves.

Walls against the outside world.

True north countering capricious poles.

Broke from the clan

to become my own man

thousands of miles from where I began.

A prodigal son

at odds with fortune

sewed the seeds of the lonely:

ennui, anxiety, melancholy.

Never found purpose playing paragon partisan

to some superstition’s celestial eidolon.

Never met a surgeon who’d commit to correct

my inner child’s congenital heart defect.

When I needed them most

my “friends” could not be found.

YOU gave me a new life

when my old life ran aground.
