Protect Me…

Petals of a withering flower

By Daniella Igweze Published 2 years ago 1 min read

They say

That a girls first superhero is her father

If you take a look at mine

You’d see that

His charisma evidently mirrors

The number zero

Never mind me

I’m perfectly fine

Just a little dead inside

“Nothing that can’t be fixed”

If you insist

Take your pick

My list is as long as the river Nile

Check out number nine

Why do you seem surprised?

“Emotionally distant”

That’s a fancy word for daddy issues

People who never wore my shoes would say “Don’t bother with that one,

She was raised by a single mother

Those never turn out quite right”

Let’s see number thirteen

“Overbearing”

In case you’re wondering,

That’s the age I started wandering

I had no one to PROTECT ME

My own DNA was a no show

I guess to him home

was the bottom of a liquor bottle

But hey

You recognize me, don’t you?

Ultimately,

“The wounded recognize the wounded”
