Autocracy Won’t Affect My Dog
A K-9 to 1 Shot

My dog is a loving, caring soul. Anyone who meets her says so. Such a beaming soul, that everyone she encounters on the street becomes happier.
Who else can say that about their effect on people? Who else can lift someone’s spirit with a nod and a smile? I look after my dog, so she just gets to live life. And what a life! How carefree it must be to say “no change in the world will affect me.” We love them for their loving simplicity.
So we roam around together, through big towns and small. We’re there for each other, and nothing else matters. It’s always a beautiful time when I’m with my dog.
My dog loves meeting people, even when they’re not so sure about meeting her. She’s fascinated by people, even when they’re too busy to give her the time of day.
Unlike me, my dog doesn’t have to get angry or sad. My dog doesn’t need to worry about having enough in the future. “Just take what you need and leave the rest.” That’s a motto we could learn from her. Because, unlike us, she knows there will always be more if we leave room for abundance.
How nice it would be to get my meals served to me every day at the same time. And for someone else to clean up my poop! But alas, I have to deal in the real world.
Prices will rise and fall, but it won’t affect my dog. The stock market may go up and down, but it won’t affect my dog. The struggle between countries will continue, but it won’t affect my dog.
Even if aliens came down from outer space, well… it would be frightening… it would be awkward… it would change everything we thought we thought we ever knew… but it STILL won’t affect my dog.
Yes, a shifting world is scary for us… and changes in our own government even scarier… but it won’t affect my dog. We might have to put ourselves on the line for human rights, but our dogs’ rights are never really threatened.
Even when we can’t be together, my dog will remember me, and keep going. Our bond is not one determined by distance. In some way, we will always find each other.
And even if not, my dog will find food. My dog will find water. My dog can roam through the city or wilderness without fear.
No matter where she ends up… she’ll always find what she needs.
She will remember me, wait for me, and carry on until she finds me again.
So when the worry sets in, when things seem their darkest, when I lose all faith in the world… I know at least it won’t affect my dog!
