One More Night

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished a day ago 1 min read

The last light of life began to fade

In your dark blue eyes, where secrets stayed

Mysteries and love, too deep to name

I curled beside you, whispering through pain

[Verse 2]

That hard white bed, a silent stage

The beeping marked each breath you gave

My hand upon your weary chest

Begging your heart to beat, to rest

[Chorus]

Please just keep going, don’t let go

I prayed so hard, you’ll never know

Live… Live… Live… I cried

Lit candles, incense, hope defied

Take me, God, if that’s the way

Just give us one more day

[Verse 3]

I made wild promises I couldn’t keep

Offered my soul, my body, my sleep

Take his pain, give it all to me

Let him stay, let him breathe, let him be

[Bridge]

One more kiss, tender and raw

One more night held in his arms

Loving fiercely through the dark

Before the silence leaves its mark

[Chorus]

Please just keep going, don’t let go

I prayed so hard, you’ll never know

Live… Live… Live… I cried

Lit candles, incense, hope defied

Take me, God, if that’s the way

Just give us one more day

[Outro]

Please… Please… Please… I say

One more day

One more day

One more day
