Bittersweet Halloween Candy
For Mike’s HallOctoberEen Challenge
Halloween candy will taste bittersweet this year
It was your favorite holiday
You will not get to enjoy it now
And you never will again
* * *
Movies, masks, costumes, candy—
It was your excitement that I loved most
It was your smile that made me smile
Your enthusiasm that drove me forth
* * *
What will I live for now?
* * *
Memories that live on in my heart
That replay constantly in my mind
Imagining you celebrating alongside me
Though a thin veil now separates us
* * *
My own enthusiasm will drive us forth
* * *
Halloween candy will taste bittersweet this year
It was your favorite holiday
You will get to enjoy it from beyond
Even though you are not right here
* * *
