Picture Of A Love Wasted
Drawn after our love had gone cold
Please draw me a picture of starlight and space,
Then capture in detail the look on your face.
Move your pencil across the paper to show your smile,
That encompasses the love we had for a while.
***
Highlight the tears on my face in red and white,
All due to the harsh words spoken that night.
Erase or scribble out the time we spent together,
Blacken the fights that caused stormy weather.
***
Shade in the happiness with colours so bold,
Include all the heartbreak that turned our love cold.
Show me this picture of our love wasted,
That captures all the pain we have since tasted.
***
Leave the picture behind as you turn away,
As a reminder of the reasons you wouldn’t stay.
Hold the memory of me crying as you left,
Knowing you are the reason I’m feeling bereft.

About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
