I've heard one man
refer to his lover as his peach
his plum
(thank you, Brian)
but if I was your peach
and if I was your plum
I'd be bruised all around
with a stolen pit
you worked through me like a worm
busy and fit
to destroy your only source
of sweetness
consume me
from the inside out
and steal the greatest part of me
just to use it
to grow something similar
with somebody else.

Hello ♡
This poem is the first of a few I've planned in what I am calling the Peach collection. I've taken inspiration from a few different sources in deciding to do this, and I'm not exactly sure how many poems there will be in this, but stay tuned for more.
You can now find the second poem in the collection here:
My first inspiration was the song "Peach" by The Front Bottoms. I pay my little tribute with the line "Thank you, Brian" which is the name of the singer/songwriter of the band. I also think it's cute, because there is another band I listen who openly takes inspiration from TFB called McCafferty, who actually says in one of his songs that they "stole all my lines from a guy named Brian" and I think this pays tribute to that as well.
My second inspiration is a friend of mine and a deserving poet, who goes by Brie Susanne. Last year, she released a poetry book called Bruised Fruit, and uses peaches as a common theme. It is a beautiful collection, and I recommend you check it out!
My third inspiration (but really no particular order) is Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey. I saw Rupi perform live in 2022, and have been a great fan of her poetry for a long time. If you haven't seen her work, I definitely suggest seeking it out. It can be a little bit graphic of her past experiences, but so incredible.
Stay tuned for more in this collection ♡

I felt like a piece of unappreciated property after reading this. Excellent writing, Belle!
Masterful writing. And a new writer to check out? Amazing!
amazing poem
This is so twisty and brilliant! I love how you suck us in with a juicy title like Peach and it's not as soft and delicious as we might expect....there's a hard edge and a sour note in there that really makes us hate him!
Such great imagery here, Belle. Pitted to be grown somewhere else - that image is so strong.
Omgggg, using the seed to grow something similar with someone else, that hit me so hard!
God, this was phenomenal. Such gorgeous poetry—am going back for a second read!
First, this poem is a vivid picture of what unfortunately some people will do to others. Especially "you worked through me like a worm." Second, thanks for the reference on Brie Susanne's poetry collection. Rushing to Amazon to get it right now. Third, love Rupi Kaur! Never have had the honor to see her perform in person, but I do have all of her poetry collections on my bookshelf. Reading those poems actually inspired me to write my own poetry.
