Ordinary Man

Wanting an Ordinary Life

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

He’s an ordinary man, he’s a man of the times

Who’s been sent so very far away, and he’s got fear in his eyes

So caught up in the loneliness of his world that’s been ripped apart

He only wants to go home and find lightness in the dark

He’s just an ordinary man

Somebody’s brother, somebody’s best friend

He’s got a couple of kids

And he misses his wife

‘Cause he’s just an ordinary man

Who only wants to go back again

To the people who mean the most to him

Wanting to live an ordinary life

He’s just an ordinary man

He knows only man makes war, but he’s heard war makes the man

Now he’s being driven by a force he doesn’t understand

While he quietly cries for help his fist raised in the air

Knowing he’s got to find compromise, he can’t figure out just where.

He’s just an ordinary man

Somebody’s brother, somebody’s best friend

He’s got a couple of kids

And he misses his wife

‘Cause he’s just an ordinary man

Who only wants to go back again

To the people who mean the most to him

Wanting to live an ordinary life

He’s just an ordinary man

That was a powerful poem! Having had two brothers who served in Viet Nam and a Dad who served in WWII, I can relate to these words from their spoken viewpoints on the horror of war.
