Color is Pride: True Colors

What a normalcy it is -
to attempt to condense ourselves into a small container,
to stamp a label on both ourselves & one another.
Does it make the essence of our peers easier to digest?
Does it make it simpler for us to understand ourselves?
I am a deep Cerulean.
My true depths yet to be reached by myself or my loved ones,
Seemingly boundless as I stretch myself impossibly thin
Yet I still hold it together
much like the sky, above.
I am Yellow.
A dazzling brightness,
An infectious joy energizing whatever space I inhabit,
And conversely I am a sunflower unwillingly picked from the ground
Appreciated for my appearance & apparent beauty for a few moments,
Before my novelty wears off & I am left to wild.
the sentient beauty experienced in both instances
should be held tight.
I am a blazing Red.
Fiery passion drives my every day.
Passion for dance,
Passion for music.
Passion for the comfort and safety of my loved ones
Drives the hours of work that I put in day in & day out
to create the life thought by most to only exist within fantasy.
I feel the heat in my extremities
My hands boiling from the inside-out,
Not just the heat from my determination to provide,
But also the searing blaze of my fury.
Fury at the lack of compassion for the
“Lower class”
Fury at the lack of compassion for the
“Strange”
Fury at the lack of compassion for the
everyday people.
It burns everyday.
Not nearly enough is being done to extinguish the flames
So I steel myself to do so, myself.
We are not our outsides.
We are not our appearance.
We are not our skin.
They are merely a shell - a vessel.
When we unzip this old skin
We find that we’re all a mass of
Beautifully blinding energy
Reflecting every color imaginable.
Our true selves a soul contain within our bodies.
The same kind of juxtaposition that exists
When trying to combine these hues into one form,
exists within me.
Exists within you.
Exists within us all.
We are one.
Be proud.
