OCTOBER HARVEST
For the Sensational II Challenge
In the fresh air, the earthy smell of newly turned soil overpowers our nostrils at the beginning of the day; later, we will get a whiff of Grandma's freshly made pies.
Looking around the potato field, the rows appear to go on forever with no end in sight.
Breaking the silence, we hear a sonic boom from the aircraft high in the azure sky and the sudden, startling, and ear piercing sound subsides.
Digging in the dark moist soil, it brushes against our skin and our hands reach out and touch the stem tuber vegetable; picking potatoes, no one is uptight.
Working in the potato field, the manual labor produces an appetite; the first bite of warm baked bread with apple butter tastes so good, which isn't a surprise.

Mmmm, I wish I can have some of that bread. Loved your poem!
Well-wrought! I have many fond memories of the pumpkin patch. I even fondly recall my mother chiding me for eating apple butter right out of the jar. "It's too rich, Rommi!" she said. I am still inclined to disagree!
Wish we could celebrate Halloween in full here. We have something similar....the Hungry Ghosts Festival that just concluded! Beautiful, Babs.
