Advertised happiness

Blaring from every direction

Counting the ways

Depression can be defeated.

Everyone says to smile more

Find ways to feel brighter inside

Genie-in-a-bottle remedies or

Holistic witchcraft to cure your mind.

I don't want a chemical soup and

Judging on my tears, tea won't help either.

Kinder than pills is the darkness

Luring me in with the promise of silence

Moorless and drifting in a sea of isolation

No one to see me at my worst

Only myself.

Pulling the blankets over my head

Quietly

Rotting, all the while hoping against hope for

Someone

To

Understand and

Venture into the oceans of apathy

Willing to see me as I am, and love me anyways

Xenial in their judgment

Yearning to bring me home, to bring a

Zombie slowly back to life

I like how You get to the heart of what a lot of people feel during depression. Just the sense of wanting to be comforted and loved, but meanwhile everybody and everything around them is trying to shove curing remedies in their face and down their throat in the hopes of altering their brain's chemistry. Yet, is what really going on all due to negative feedback loops of chemicals in our brains, or is it what's going on in our metaphorical hearts that people are pushing aside. There's rationality and reason, but even reason has enough common sense to know when somebody just needs a little tender loving care. Would chamomile tea help? I don't know, but the gesture sure is nice, especially when it's provided.

I think this speaks a lot about modern living. I, like Oneg, liked "chemical soup" - throwing pills at it is an easy solution. And sometimes I want to curl up and hide - just for a bit from the noise and the brashness of the world so I could relate.

  • Congratulations!💖💖💓👍🤦‍♂️

Advertised happiness distract us from appreciating the happiness that's available for us at this very moment if we could just go inwards. Loved your poem <3
