Now That You’re Gone

A poem and a memorable song

By Rasma RaistersPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

Even though it’s been so long,

you are the one I’ll never forget,

you were there when times were tough -

you were there with your love.

Bright memories still shine,

when you were mine -

now that you're gone.

You once told me,

never look back,

if I needed a friend,

you’d always be not far away.

You came at a time,

when the world wasn’t mine,

when I thought I couldn’t get through -

not even one more day.

Then there you were,

to say that you loved me,

to tell me that you cared

and took all my sorrows away.

Our love was a fleeting thing,

not meant for the centuries,

we parted friends -

with warm memories still in our hearts.

*

To hear your voice,

time and time again,

let me go on

and let me continue on my life’s path.

You once said,

that if there was but silence,

it would be that your voice was stilled

and that I had to go on alone.

The time has come

and I understand,

that you must have had your calling,

but it’s alright my dearest friend.

*

I know you’re not far away

and my memories can stray,

to those wonderful days,

those days when we were two.

Up above in the sky,

there among the twinkling stars,

I know you’re now free and happy

and I go on remembering you –

*

now that you’re gone.
