pen knifed by night

I stir, removing myself

from the warm curl of your snore

risking wrestling your dream soldiers

to answer

the hard pressing

fingers

of my sleep deprived mind

I love this! Short and brilliantly written... The metaphors and diction, so beautifully poetic!

Wow, this was relatable and felt metaphorical in the sense that one's writing skills might be a lot sharper at night, with less distractions. But also that feeling of battling with oneself as an author where you have to decide between sleep and chasing that illusive muse!! Amazing work here Christy!!

Great poem capturing the drive of creativity! I don’t usually have ideas but that keep me up but I have gone to sleep working on something in the noggin and had it sorted when I woke up

I too am sleep deprived, always waking up to scribble something that came in dreams. Our minds work overtime filled with stories in our heads. But they say yoga helps, or reading a book.

Wow, you perfectly described my dreamless nights...

  • Do you know Donna Fox here on Vocal? She would find this soooo relatable because she is exactlyyyyyyy like that too! Loved your poem!

Excellent! Does this mean you get inspired at night? Or that you are unable to sleep?

Writer’s insomnia, Christy? Sounds like you have pretty bad case of it. All your amazing stories and poems have to be written some time.
