Nature Leads

Softening into Autumn

'Tis early September, the night of the Buck Moon when day begins to concede and night seeps in slowly as if it had no knowledge of the hours and months ahead that it would overtake.

Darkness would be embraced in these far northern lands regardless of the melancholy their elongated presence imposed.

Candles lit muses which others weren't privy to understand; timeless journeys from artist's hands, weavers, crafters of all sorts hunkered down in preparation.

You see, one either denies darkness or invites the darkness in, welcomes it and feeds it with a light from an eternal flame or suffers needlessly within.

As the young buck sprouts his first antler buds, aspen leaves bow graciously to their last serenade of color; the fox, the hare and all of the forest creatures do not sit about waiting for winter as they are part of the same song. The animals do not wait to eat, rather they scamper and scurry about in perfect rhythm.

As always they follow Nature's lead, continuing to live in the present, never pondering idly as humans can. ~

It’s time for Autumn! 🍂 I like how your poem seems to be about embracing nature and the seasons, rather than bemoaning everything that is to come like shorter and colder days. “The animals do not wait to eat, rather they scamper and scurry about in perfect rhythm.” Maybe we should take a leaf out of their book😄

  • Oh I invited the darkness in and embraced it with a warm hug hehehehe. I loved this so much!

Beautiful words. "You see, one either denies darkness or invites the darkness in," Nature gets it right.

Such deep thoughts. Although, isn’t that a human condition, that from pondering idly something great can come out, like philosophy or art?

Lovely and well-wrought! All the finest trees and most beautiful flowers sprout first within the darkness of earth.

You are a wonderful prose stylist, ROCK! Loved the juxtaposition dreading the darkness with nature continuing to thrive in the moment!
