My Struggle

Perseverance

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read
Top Story - August 2023

I’m living as a Christian and I walk a different path

I’m trying hard to circumvent a history full of wrath

I struggle with my anger and I wrestle with my sins

As long as I give in to them then Jesus never wins

It landed me in prison and I paid a heavy price

Of all the things I did to people, none of them were nice

I’m still a work in progress but I’m stronger every week

Tho sometimes I still stumble while I’m trying to be meek

Although I’ve learned forgiveness and I wanna practice grace

I don’t respond too well to people getting in my face

A man who’s rather large decides to show off for his wife

Deciding it was worth it if he caused a little strife

She cut me off in checkout at our local grocery store

Although I backed away it seems he wanted something more

I felt my temper rising, I got ready for “the dance”

I leaned in and I whispered just to give the man a chance

Despite all his bravado, they just walked away instead

I wanted to de-escalate, so this is what I said

“I’m not the bigger person so you need to walk away

I hated life in prison, but I might go back today”

This is so raw. It really highlights the struggles of anger problems and issues with problem solving. It can be hard sometimes to turn the other cheek. Well-done and congrats.

I am so glad you shared , temper is very hard to controlled. It’s a process just like life. My mother never got her temper under control but I still loved her. I hope you find the right support system that fits you well. 🙏🏽♥️ Excellent Rhythm poetry
