My Heart Fell into Autumn Leaves

Free at last to live my life

My Heart Fell into Autumn Leaves

My heart fell into autumn leaves,

I tell everyone no one believes.

I knew I had to leave it there,

For what once lived is no longer there.

You moulded me into your life,

But too soon I was an abused wife.

You took my love, my life,

You crushed my brain,

The beatings left me in too much pain.

The broken ribs healed, my bruises faded,

As a happy couple we masqueraded.

I turned to God; He wasn’t there,

No one but my heart heard that prayer.

You threatened to kill me with that knife.

I had to break free to save my life.

Ten long years from me you stole.

I was a puppet all through it all.

So one day down by trees in the wood,

I made my decision to get out for good.

In that moment with the strongest breeze,

I left my heart in a pile of leaves.

The best thing I ever did,

I spat my life with you down a grid.

I walked away with no looking back.

I later learned you died from an overdose of smack.
