‘What can change this world?’
The voice asked the night wind
Besides
The turning of the tides
The nearness of the sun
The pull of the planet’s core
What can turn
Mountains into sand?
‘I cannot change anything.’
The voice whispered
And for the first time
The night wind whispered back
‘You speak as if your voice is not also the wind
That carves rocks into canyons
As if your bones are not also the earth
That covers the bed of the deepest ocean
You may be one voice, one grain of sand
but you are one of many
And when the many
Come together and rise
That is how
Mountains are made.’
