Moth to the Fire
When Desire and Truth Collide

When desire and truth collide, the heart keeps calling.
🌫️
I counted costs, but still I chose the mire
And now the truth turns back to whence it came
A soft voice keeps calling, like moth to the fire.
🔥
My burden heavy, lies that make me tire
The weight of hidden words that I should name
I counted costs, but still I chose the mire
💨
I crossed a line, my soul now for the pyre
The flames do burn, for bold truths that shame
A soft voice keeps calling, like moth to the fire.
⚡
I let my fear play music on the lyre
Dodging hurts that should bring soul to flame
I counted costs, but still I chose the mire
🌙
I chose a need, a want that was sire
It served to light poor, ruined souls aflame
A soft voice keeps calling, like moth to the fire.
🕯️
I chose to bind my peace with lie's hard wire
I chose to keep the truth in iron chains
I counted costs, but still I chose the mire
A soft voice keeps calling, like moth to the fire.

This was stunning. I could see the moth being beckoned to its demise through your imagery.
Returning to congratulate you on your top story❣
Chills... I have watched many moths dive devotedly and directly into the flame and have always felt a strong resonance with the metaphor it brings. Great villanelle!
Such a vivid blend of regret and yearning the poem moves like a flame itself, flickering between confession and surrender.

Awesome Villanelle. I hope this win the Challenge!
I was drawn in straightaway when I saw "Moth" in the title. My sons loves them, finds them most intriguing, and I have followed suit. The flow of your poem is beautiful, Michelle❣
Life is short. Life becomes long with patience. Life is made meaningful through love and compassion. It is better to look upward from below — as true human beings. The One knows what He will give to each of us. These words came out of me spontaneously, because I understand you completely, and I like you.
