Moonfern

a poem

To my Moonfern,

You shall be my spirit’s sweet

incipience—

lace-leafed,

lunar-furled and ever

efflorescent—

and not a day has passed where I

have not dived

heart-first into a sea of clouds,

without parachutes,

to fish your soul from stars.

*

I have sculpted you,

my moonlove-vision,

by the wane and wax

of my own circadian rhythm, and

each ellipse in those haloed,

auric pillows is

a piece of me, for you—

a petal I

plead propagates your

crescent,

bud-and-gibbous roots—

that together, our wholeness could illuminate

an orchard.

*

There are times I feel I

might touch you—

when your pearled face lingers—

on days’ lavish canvas—

like a pallid, faint tattoo that clings

to sunlight’s skin as if

it fears it soon shall be

forgotten—

but you’ve forgotten:

in a past life, I

watercolored dawn for you—

and still, my love stains sky with stubborn,

incandescent permanence.

And so I ask you, beloved Moonbud—

How on Earth could I

forsake you?

Sometimes I

imagine plucking you

from that fleeting,

opalescent hour of

the night’s adieu, just

the way I would a pearl

from the constellation of

an oyster—

that I might

hold you in my pocket,

embroider you into the soil of

my aching, hopeworn womb—

there, I could watch and marvel as

my belly blushes and

becomes your chrysalis;

if only forging you was that easy,

my Moonbloom.

*

Your heartbeats are still

stardrops in the universe

within me—I wait,

and wait,

and wait,

and in all my waiting, I

write poems for you—

do you read my letters in the cradle of

your demilune?

Or are you busy, busy, (chasing)

seraph-honey bees

and hummingbirds

in heaven's playground?

*

I like to think I am

an artist—sketching you in clouds,

arcs,

and mist—

and that

I’ll hold you soon, my little Lunafern—

✨you✨ (with your)

crescent-moon halo,

watching momma dream.

I really love the moonfern and lunaness and demilune references, Originality blooms here. So much to read, so little time. Beautiful ode to moon goddess on high. Congrats.

Take a bow, Gina C. 🤩 Truly remarkable work!!! You're going to need a bigger showcase for your trophies soon! Honestly, I don't know how you do it. You are a natural... I could never put words together like this without wondering if I made the right word choices. Poetry is a beast to perfect, and you my friend are a scholar! I was hooked with the image. Then I get into the poem and wow. "...a piece of me...for you." Your decision to bold "for you" was inspired. The power of the language is palpable. "...my belly blushes...and becomes your chrysalis." is so unusual and stunning. Congratulations on the win. Very well deserved!

*Looks up 'moonfern'* 🪴🌔Half moon shaped leaf. Ooo that's lovely. I learnt something new. I could see how you relate the features of the moonfern to the moon. 🪴🌔'Heart- first into a sea of clouds' this line showed how free you felt. How trusting and sure you were — to fish the moons soul from the stars. Is that a slant rhyme I spotted... 'moon love vision' and 'circadian rhythm' 🥰 🪴🌔'Our wholeness could illuminate an orchard' 🤯 hardworking poet, I mean that in the best way possible. 'Watercoloured dawn for you' oh my 😲 🪴🌔Safe to say I got lost in your words after the lines I pointed out. You touched on everything. Even down to your womb. Called it moonbloom. 🪴🌔I would be surprised if the moon isn't blushing now. All those sweet names you gave it... To end this with 'watching momma dream' was the icing on the cake. You never once made your love for the moon slip in both words and passion throughout. Outstanding work, Gina 🤗🖤❤️

This is a masterpiece, Gina. Breathless with desire and effervescent as gentle bubbles floating in a stream. Many, many wonderful lines with one so stunning it manages to standout in the midst of all this beauty - Sometimes I imagine plucking you from that fleeting opalescent hour of the night’s adieu, just the way I would a pearl from the constellation of an oyster. That is as lovely a line as any I have ever read by a famous poet, either living or dead. Good luck on the challenge! I hope to see this one in the winner’s circle!

This, Gina, is a masterpiece. Fragile, powerful, loaded with yearning and elegant with poise, while still, in every word, utterly magical.

  • Awww, this was so touching, sweet, and emotional. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️
