Lunar Ascent

A Rhyming Poem

My mind turns to the dark side of the moon,

melding to the seams of the lunar loom -

making madness,

melting magnets -

poles of personality dividing in twine;

no rail breaks to stop me this time.

Balls of yarn unfurl my sanity,

knitting back together; a new pattern of insanity.

The shadow of the moon becomes my power suit

without electricity to fuel this troubleshoot,

so I float free above the peaks,

letting gravity pull me for weeks.

The craters of the moon mirror my smile

at the end of the erosive cycle - senile -

crooked and unhinged;

crumbling and singed -

an untapped joy without restraint;

a delirium with which to paint

this maddening descent;

this lunar ascent.

Author's Note:

Been quite busy these last few weeks! I'm prepping for a family vacation starting next week and for my dad's knee replacement surgery following soon after. August into September is going to be offline focused rather than online.

I've made more progress on my novel ( 8 pages added last week! ) and I've been keeping my writing sharp by journaling almost every day. The poems I've posted today are a product of some of those exercises.

I hope all of you are doing well! See you soon. c:

    I love the imagery of this poem. The moon is always associated with madness, but you’ve really done something with that association here and turned it into an ascent rather than a descent. Beautiful poem. 💜

  • Have a wonderful vacation and hope your dad's surgery goes well. Loved your poem!
