love unconditional

and so much more

Top Story - December 2023
Norma Jean

A/N - I'm re-releasing this piece today as my sweet Norma Jean crossed over the rainbow bridge this morning. I'm trying to wrap my head around the empty space in my heart and my home. She was always momma's girl. Always by my side. Eight years was not enough.

Come and sit beside me,

I need the comfort of your warmth,

Your steady heartbeat

soothes my frayed nerves,

allows me to take a deep breath

and settle.

I can smell the freedom

of sun and air

as I lean against you,

no words necessary between us,

just the solace of being.

In those moments,

when I struggle with the

fierce reality of life,

you carry me

without hesitation,

without knowing the full story,

without needing

anything in return.

I catch you staring at me

with so much love,

as though you can see right

through my hollow soul.

It fills pieces in bit by bit

giving me something

to hold onto when

days are dark

and your light has finally

moved on

from this world.

Thank you, my friend,

for rescuing me.

Oh, I’m so sorry, Heather. I have not been able to think of another dog pal since my Ruby left. She was just as you described Norma Jean and her presence beside you. Peace, love and hugs to you. ☮️🕊️💔

Great work! I really enjoyed reading this short piece, but it felt complete. A little meloncholy, a slight sense of yearning, hellos and goodbyes are fitted into one poem. Thank you so much for sharing and congratz on your top story!!! ^^

Heather, I needed this today! It's about to be my first Christmas without one of my beloved fur babies and it's been so hard to acknowledge... This gave a me a moment to reflect on it and process everything. Thank you!! Also... your fur-babies are sooooo cute!! I also have an orange tabby!! But I'll admit yours is a lot skinnier than mine! Anyways, congrats on Top Story!! This was a great one!
